It’s a classic story reimagined: Disney Theatrical’s Broadway sensation Beauty and the Beast is getting a contemporary twist for its Australian premiere at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre starting June 27, following a successful stint at Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre.
The beloved tale, awarded five stars by Time Out Sydney, will be revitalized by the producers of The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, and Frozen. Audiences can look forward to stunning modern technology, dazzling costumes, and Broadway-caliber dance routines set to live orchestral music composed by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.
Based on Disney’s 1991 animated film, the timeless romance between Belle and the Beast will be brought to life by an all-Australian cast. Brisbane’s Shubshri Kandiah stars as Belle, with Brendan Xavier as the Beast, and Melbourne’s Rohan Browne as Lumiere. Brisbane’s Jackson Head will portray Gaston, Melbourne’s Gareth Jacobs will play Cogsworth, and Gold Coast’s Jayde Westaby will take on the role of Mrs. Potts.
